PERSONAL INFORMATION Never tell a stranger  your home or school address or where you will be at a given time. Beware of passing on your e-mail address, mobile or home phone number!

PURCHASES  Never make a purchase on E-Bay or any other e-sales site or go through the motions of doing so without the knowledge, approval and assistance of an adult.   

NAMES AND ADDRESSES  Never use or pass these on to others without direct permission.  Equally, do not use anyone else’s identity or, for example, their CREDIT CARD!

OTHER GUY’S KIT Never use a lap-top or PC belonging to anyone else without  permission  on each occasion.  Important work in progress may be corrupted or lost.

‘BORROWING’ SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS Has he (or she) got a multiple user licence? Re-register to include your own machine otherwise you could both be locked out or locked up!

CHURCH, SCHOOL OR DRAMA GROUP  Licenses to perform plays or music do not normally cover recordings for sale or distribution to parents,  friends or even to participants.  

BROADCAST MATERIAL A PC or lap-top that can receive TV & Radio is NOT exempt from the Licence Fee. Programmes may be copied for personal use only. Do NOT sell on or distribute

OPEN SOURCE  Advertised ‘free’ use of some software may be strictly limited and have limited functionality. It may require a follow-up payment or serial subscription to continue.

E-MAIL ATTACHMENTS A popular place for hackers to conceal a virus. Never open or pass on an attachment even if the e-mail is from a source you trust.  

IDENTITY THEFT Banks, Credit Card providers and genuine traders will never ask you for your password or display your account number in full. Use secure methods of payment such as PayPal.   

PASSWORDS Keep these a secret. Write down the first and last character or substitute a different word that will remind you what it is without giving a clue to anyone else.

‘INAPPROPRIATE’ MESSAGES OR WEB-SITES. Never give time or thought to suggestions of a personal, violent or anti-social nature. Casual curiosity often grows into obsession.

E-MAIL OR TEXTS.  Tell an adult if you receive e-mail or texts of this nature. Do not reply. Never ‘post’ pictures of yourself on your PC, on public sites or forward them to a stranger.
